Pakistan’s Consumer Confidence Hits New High: CCI Climbs 24.6% Year-on-Year

Pakistan’s economic sentiment has improved significantly, with the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) recording a 24.6% increase year-on-year and a 9.2% rise over the previous quarter in Q4 FY2024-25, according to the latest report by Dun & Bradstreet Pakistan in collaboration with Gallup Pakistan.

Key Highlights from the 18th CCI Report

  • CCI now stands at 96.2 points, up from 88.1 in the previous quarter

  • Future Confidence Index exceeds 100 points for the first time since tracking began in 2022

  • Net Indicator for Household Income jumps from 98.3 to 110.0

  • Over 50% of respondents expect stable or improved financial conditions

  • 57% foresee either economic improvement or stability in the coming months

What Is the CCI?

The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) measures public sentiment on a 0–200 scale, where:

  • Above 100 = Optimism

  • Below 100 = Pessimism

  • 100 = Neutral benchmark

The CCI covers four critical categories:

  1. Household Financial Situation

  2. Country’s Economic Situation

  3. Unemployment

  4. Household Savings

It includes both Current Sentiments (past 6 months) and Future Expectations (next 6 months).

Financial Outlook Strengthens

According to Muhammad Zubair Qureshi, Chief Business Officer at Dun & Bradstreet Pakistan:

“This quarter shows a continued upward trajectory in consumer confidence, especially in financial outlook and future expectations.”

  • Household Financial Situation recorded the highest Net Indicator

  • Household Savings expectations also saw notable improvement, with 57% anticipating stability or growth

Employment Concerns Remain

Despite a positive outlook in income and savings, the issue of unemployment lingers:

  • 61% of respondents reported a perceived increase in unemployment over the last six months

  • This underlines the urgent need for inclusive economic reforms and job creation strategies

Demographic Insights

The report also highlighted demographic-based improvements in confidence:

  • Youth under 30 experienced the largest gain in optimism, with an 8% increase over last year

  • Male respondents also showed a notable rise in confidence compared to earlier cycles

Optimism Reaches Record Highs

Bilal I Gilani, Executive Director at Gallup Pakistan, emphasized the importance of the shift:

“The CCI is now at its highest level since we began tracking it in 2022. More Pakistanis now expect the economy to improve than worsen — a first in recent memory.”

Final Thoughts

Pakistan’s rising Consumer Confidence Index reflects growing public optimism, especially in future financial prospects. While challenges like unemployment persist, the positive trajectory in household income, savings, and overall expectations offers encouraging signs for the country’s economic future.

As CCI reaches historic highs, it becomes a vital tool for policymakers, businesses, and investors to gauge public sentiment and design responsive strategies.
